Preventing Caregiver Burnout
Winsome Brown discusses being a business owner while caring for your parents. We talk about being unexpectedly thrust into a caregiving role, the impact of this on a business owner, the change in family dynamics, how we support our parents as they age, and how we can prevent caregiver burnout.
Winsome Brown didn’t always have the support or training needed to make the decisions that were best for her aging mother’s care when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2010. Winsome had been working in the financial sector for over twenty years, after earning a degree in public accounting from Pace University. Thrust unexpectedly into the role of a caregiver; she felt pressured to make life-altering choices on her mother’s behalf, without being prepared to do so. This journey helped shaped her views about our health system and what was needed for seniors and caregivers. Winsome, and her sister, a registered nurse, soon after, formed Lean On Dee Senior Care Advocates, serving as a Certified Senior Advisors, Certified Dementia Live Coaches, and Caregivers.
Today, as demand for Lean on Dee’s services grows, Winsome works with her sister to bring peace of mind, resources, and education to families that find themselves in need as a loved one goes through the aging process.
