7 MORE Email Topics To Engage Your Followers

A few weeks ago, we talked about the importance of email campaigns as a means of keeping your base of clients (or potential clients) engaged in what you have going on. We also shared a brainstorm of creative, engaging email topics you could write about — because hey, coming up with a new topic for an email every week can be a little tough. Even though you have so much you could say about your business, you have to present all of it in an interesting way when you’re writing it out as an email.

So, if you’ve gone through all of those email topics and you’re looking for more that you want to cover, here are seven more we know your email subscribers are going to love reading.

Helpful Tip of the Month

This one is effective because it can be a never-ending supply of content if you make it a monthly tradition. Every month, share your top five thoughts that you, as an expert in your industry, might understand about what you do but the average person (that is, your email subscriber) might not. If you’re a real estate agent, you could offer tips about staging your home for sale or making a competitive offer when you’re buying. If you’re a restauranteur, you could offer tips about how to caramelize vegetables or pair wines with certain dishes. Think about the stuff you discuss with your customers when you have them in person. For maximum effect, make your helpful tips of the month come out regularly at the same time (for example, the last Friday of the month).

Advice Column

This is another one that’s helpful to do every single month — an advice column. Encourage your email subscribers to write in with a question that you can then answer. If you receive enough interest, you might even answer two or three questions per email. Don’t be discouraged if this one takes a little while to gain traction at first. You might need to encourage a few loyal customers to submit the first few questions in order to get it established.

Meet the Staff

You love your staff and you know your business would not be the same without their hard work — so show them off! Dedicate one of your emails to letting people know all about your employees, their backgrounds, what they love about their jobs, and their hobbies when they aren’t at work.

Meet the Customer

Along the same lines, you could write an email featuring a customer of the month. Interview your highlighted customer about how long they’ve been coming to you, what they appreciate about your business, and what some of their favorite products or services they’ve bought have been. This email is great because it makes your loyal customer feel appreciated and it’s also a great testimonial for you! Win-win, right?

Positive Feedback

This is another version of the “Meet the Customer” email. If you receive a glowing review — maybe via Yelp, Facebook, or just a personal email — why not share it with your subscribers. Thank them for their continued support and let them know that your business continues to thrive because they are gracious enough to continue spreading the word about what you have to offer. (As a bonus, seeing these reviews come through their email might encourage a few of your customers to get online and leave a positive review of their own.)

Monthly FAQ

So this one is slightly different from the advice column in that the advice column would be long-form answers to very specific questions you receive from readers. This monthly FAQ segment would provide answers to general questions you hear all the time, possibly even from customers in person. Think in broader terms: Why do you change your hours in the summer? What’s your return policy or warranty policy? Where do you source these products? Writing this email doesn’t mean you won’t receive those questions ever again (you’ll definitely still continue to hear them!) but it will provide valuable or interesting information that maybe your email subscribers didn’t even know they needed.

Q&A with the Owner

This one is different from the monthly FAQ because these questions directed toward you aren’t necessarily about your business — they’re about YOU. Either you as a business owner or you as a person. Either way, think about your “Meet the Staff” email you sent out, and think of this as a chance for your email subscribers to get to know you. You can come up with the questions on your own, or if you’re feeling brave, you can have your employees come up with them. This gives you a chance to talk about why you opened your business, what motivates you, where you get your ideas, and what you enjoy most about serving your customers.
